After four years of independently released tracks that spread like wildfire across the web, Idle Warship will released their first official collection of songs entitled Habits of the Heart on November 1st, 2011. The 12-track album has Idle Warship storming the music scene with a bold and indefinable mash-up of influences, from soul to hip-hop to alternative to electronic. Idle Warship brought an incredible range of musical sensibilities into the studio for this amazing project!

Idle Warship is a perfect example of how a whole can become greater than the sum of its parts – and that is saying quite a lot given the musical components of this project. A collaboration between longtime friends and collaborators, hip-hop luminary Talib Kweli and critically acclaimed soulful singer and songwriter Res, Idle Warship was born.

With an obvious chemistry, a dedication to free creative expression and now a new album, Talib and Res’partnership has become a musical force to be reckoned with. The St. Louis debut of Idle Warship at 2720 Cherokee is definitely on the short list of “DO NOT MISS” shows for 2012.

Yellow Dubmarine *Beatles Reggae Tribute* (Washington D.C./Baltimore, MD.)

Forty years after four legendary musicians crafted a classic album named for the studio they made famous, another group of supremely talented musicians is re-imagining that same album in their own unique way.
For Dub-Reggae rockers, Yellow Dubmarine, who formed in the fertile music community of the Washington D.C. and Baltimore areas, the choice to take on the Beatles masterpiece, Abbey Road, was a simple one.
There was a natural vision for it, they explain, It is more of a concept album, and we knew it would be the perfect place to start.
The resulting album, Abbey DUB, is an aural journey through the history of reggae with The Beatles as your guide.

Loyal Family Presents…

From “Come Together” through “Her Majesty,” Yellow Dubmarine finds new life in all of the legendary album’s 17 songs, keeping the heart of each tune present, but simultaneously re-creating them in an entirely new light.

Producer Kenny Liner of The Bridge, crafts a sonic landscape that in one instant recalls traditional Nyagbinghi drumming, before becoming a simple Rock-steady cadence which subtly evolves into a horn-laced, Ska groove full of Caribbean and Calypso overtones that gives way to a bass heavy Dub “riddim” that sways and bounces and gets everyone up and moving.
The decision to work with Liner was an easy one for the band, proclaiming, There is no one we would trust more musically or professionally with this concept than him.
The development of the identity of Yellow Dubmarine’s horn section as a strong singular voice and separate entity within the band helped create a wholly unique sound that allows the instantly recognizable tunes from Abbey Road to take on a whole new personality, a personality that is full of intoxicating, deep, danceable grooves.
Abbey DUB is a shockingly original take on the legendary album. Horns where there were once voices, a slinky groove where there was once none, and a smooth mellow essence that seems to find the long lost island-roots soul of Abbey Road. A blissfully exuberant, rock-steady, Jah-worthy celebration of the Fab Four, Abbey DUB is quite simply a chance to hear this much loved classic again for the first time.

Juno What?! – Funk/Dance/Live Electronic (Denver, CO.)

Formed in late 2009, Juno What?! have quickly become the leading practitioners of high energy, live electro-funk and disco booty-jams. Hailing from Denver Colorado, they are now bringing their shameless dance party to stages across the country. Catalyzing dance floors into sonic landscapes, the band has ignited a devoted following by providing raw, electrifying shows which are devoid of the aimless wanderings of the lesser jam community. Their sound is ahead of its time yet still rooted in the foundation of early-80’s electro dance grooves. Featuring the soulful talkbox vocals of both Joey Porter and Steve Watkins and the hard hitting backbeat of Dave Watts, it is easy to see that this is a musical force to be reckoned with.

*Caspa*
London, UK

London-based DJ/producer Caspa is an influential figure within the dubstep community, not only as an artist but also as the founder of several influential labels (i.e., Storming Productions, Dub Police, Sub Soldiers). Born Gary McCann and also known as Quiet Storm, the West London native got into drum’n'bass at a young age and took up DJing before ultimately founding the label Storming Productions in 2004, followed by the subsidiary labels Dub Police and Sub Soldiers. Caspa made his production debut in 2006 on Dub Police with For the Kids, a three-track 12″ EP, and inaugurated his label Sub Soldiers the following year with his double-12″ release Ave It, Vol. 1. Also in 2007, he collaborated with fellow dubstep DJ/producer Rusko on the high-profile mix album FabricLive.37. Billed to Caspa & Rusko and notably the first dubstep entry in the long-running series, the album was somewhat of a milestone for the fledgling British style. The following year Caspa & Rusko performed a DJ set at the 2008 ~Glastonbury Festival.

*Matty G*
Santa Cruz, CA

Matthew Gonsalves better known as Matty G, is without doubt the pioneer of the hip hop influenced sub-genre that ever so present in today’s flourishing dubstep scene. Since his first release in 2006 on US based imprint ‘Argon’, he has gone from strength to strength building on his sample based 90’s hip hop sound and having scene defying tracks along the way all from his studio in Santa Cruz, USA. In 2007 came the massive ‘50,000 Watts’ which set the bar for the sub-low 808 sound that many have tried to imitate since and remains a true anthem within the scene to this day. It gained support from the who’s who of dubstep royalty including Caspa & Rusko (featuring on their legendary FabricLive compilation), Skream, Digital Mystikz, N-Type & Joe Nice to name a few and also received the remix treatment from dubstep pioneer Loefah, all going towards firmly cementing the track, and Matty G in the history of the sound. Later that year Matty came with another anthem in the shape of ‘West Coast Rocks’ which again raised the bar and received a remix from Dub Police head honcho Caspa, who also that year put out Matty’s debut release for the Dub Police label on the 2nd installment of the License To Thrill series sharing wax with Rusko and Dubwoofa. In 2008 Matty released his debut album on Argon entitled ‘Take You Back’, which received rave reviews from all corners of the dubstep scene as well as bridging the gap even more so between dubstep and hip hop. Featuring vocals performances from the likes of Juakali and Audio Angel, the LP again solidified Matty’s place among the dubstep ranks. As well as proving to be a renowned producer, Matty showed the masses he is as talented behind the decks, touring far and wide playing at such prestigious nights as; DMZ at The Mass in Brixton, Dub Police at Fabric in London and the world famous Glastonbury Festival (the largest music and performing arts festival in the world). Fast forward to 2010 and having just completed a tour of US for Scion AV along with Caspa, The Others, D1 and Rod Azlan, Matty is back in the studio on the best form of his life with numerous tracks doing the rounds and massive releases lined up including a single for Dub Police as well as remixes for Caspa and label mate Subscape. You are very likely to be seeing more of this man in the future, 2012 is shaping up to be the year when this musical stalwart really shines through.
